5 Pregnancy questions

1. How did you find out you were pregnant?
I was a week late & took a pregnancy test on August 10 hoping to surprise Jesse on his birthday, but the test was negative. The next morning I took another one which was positive. Unbelievingly, I waited a while and took another one which was also positive.

2. How did you tell your partner (if you have/had one)?
I wanted Jesse to be the first to know, but Danette was coming over and I had to let her know because I was so excited I could hardly wait. Jesse was working at the hotel and I didn't want to tell him on the phone, so after she left I drove over and told him.

3. Did you secretly hope for a girl or a boy?
I've always wanted a baby girl that looked exactly like me since I look exactly like my mom, so I was hoping for a girl, though a boy would have been just as welcome. I always knew she was a girl, though. :)

4. Did you feel ready to have a child?
A little bit of both. We weren't taking any precautions against having a baby. We figured if having a baby was what God wanted, then we would have one whenever He saw fit. Apparently now is the time. I wasn't so sure that I was ready since I am 20 years old.

5. What bit of advice did you get that you hated?
All advice about giving birth. I preferred to not know anything about what was going to happen while giving birth, but some people didn't understand that it's better for me to not know anything, than to obsessively worry about it.

6. What bit of advice did you get that you appreciated?
Not to feel inferior or let others make me feel like a bad mom for not breast-feeding. It's not easy and it doesn't work for everyone.

It's been a while...

... my bad. But things have been a bit hectic lately. I just finished my second full week of not working. And these last two weeks I've been busy getting the nursery ready & making sure I have everything that I'll need for Olivia. But the nursery is ready, except for little things which we'll probably finish doing today.

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday - one which I was hoping might not happen, but alas, Olivia just can't decide when to be born. The due date is tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

3 weeks left

and yet I'm still working. Whatever possessed me to agree to working through my 37th week of pregnancy? Ignorance, obviously. But someone really should have informed me of how stupid that was. Even though my pregnancy has been easy, I didn't realize how restless and sore I could be this close to being done. My wedding ring doesn't fit anymore, so I had to go out and buy something to take it's place. Sigh.

The baby shower is this Saturday, which is great, especially considering the fact that I still need quite a few things, but I can't buy anything until I know what other people have bought. I still need to buy things for me for the hospital. Nothing like waiting 'til the last minute. SERIOUSLY.

I had a great Easter yesterday. We went to church & then had Easter dinner at my parents house. Later that night we drove (with Kate & Wes) to Grandma & Grandpa Bro's house. Apparently I shouldn't be in a car that is traveling for 1.5 hours (round trip) because my back is sure suffering today! :(

6 weeks left!

Can you believe it? I can't. It's just around the corner, and I'm starting to feel ready, yet not even close to being ready. I found a good stroller on sale this week that I'm going to go ahead and buy - mostly cuz I doubt that I'll be getting one as a shower gift. I just won't put it together, just in case I would happen to get one, and then I can take it back.

I have a doctor's appointment this week and it'll be the first one that I've gone to alone. =/ I'm not really looking forward to that.

Last Thursday, when we had our last "big" snowstorm, I pretty much almost died. I have never been so scared in my life. I was driving down Ridgeway, and somebody either couldn't stop, or decided that they weren't going to stop until they were 2-3 feet out in the middle of the road. I hit my brakes and my car just wouldn't stop. I kept sliding closer and closer to the car, and somehow (only by the grace of God) was I able to miss hitting them. There is NO way I should have missed them, but my car somehow managed to go around them and miss hitting the car that was in the next lane as well. When I reached the Ridgeway/Ansborough light I noticed that I was shaking and, of course, crying. Way to scare a very pregnant woman. I thank God for keeping me safe especially since so many bad things could have happened. The saddest part is that I hadn't noticed anyone else slipping around up until that point, and I had just driving to Cedar Falls and back, and as I near my house that happens.

And I've also managed to catch a cold. I honestly can't believe that has happened. This couldn't have happend at at a more inopportune time. SERIOUSLY.

7 weeks to go!

Another week of work begins today. Yes, I realize that it's Tuesday, but I work Tuesday - Friday. Really, I have good hours and days, yet some days seem a LOT longer than others, and some weeks just draaaaag along. I've been pretty tired lately, but I'm glad there's only 7 weeks (or so) left.

The good news is that there have been talks of a baby shower *before* Olivia gets here. That will mean fewer things that I will have to purchase (hopefully!). More on that as the details get worked out.

The bad news is that I'm beginning to really stress about different things. One being that this is about the time of year that detassling talk begins. I hate detassling season - and I have lots of reasons to. One being that the first year that we got married, 10 (or so) people stayed at our house 3 weeks after we got back from our honeymoon. Talk about zero privacy. The past year I started an in-home daycare and didn't really think that it would be wise to have a millon people around during the day. So they said there would be 4 of them and they'd stay in the basement. 4 quickly turned to 6 and it took me almost a week of taking all their crap downstairs before they realized that when I agreed to them staying in the basement, I meant it. This year there had better not be any talk of them staying with us because there is no way I'm cleaning up/feeding all of them while taking care of a 2 month old. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN. I'm obviously not a very forceful person when it comes to telling people what to do, but I can assure you that this year will be different. As you can tell, this stresses me out the most.

Here's to another long week of working, sleeping, and hopefully no more wintery weather.

I'm not going to lie

but this has been one of the longest weeks ever. I think most of it has to do with all the snow and the fact that I've pretty much been at home for the past few days and maybe I'm just getting bored with the repetitiveness. All I know is that I've never been so happy for it to be Friday AND for the sun to be out.

Wednesday I bought some bottles and a baby book. :D I love being able to buy baby things - they're so cute. And I started making a baby quilt, too. Hopefully I'll have time to work on that this afternoon. I can't wait to get alot of baby stuff done.

Today has been a very long day. It took forever to get the baby down for a nap. And on top of that, I was having some cramps which I started to freak out about. But since I haven't had any since, I'm not too worried anymore. (Of course, I'm still a bit worried - but that's just what I do) I also woke up feeling, yet again, like I'm getting a cold. Hopefully I won't end up with it. And my leg pain is definantly getting worse. I really don't understand it. It just feels like my leg is not completely connected to the rest of my body. And today it is really painful. Sometimes I have a hard time walking. Sigh, I hope after Olivia comes it will go away.

Today will consist of running to the bank, to Target, and then over to my parents to hopefully continue working on the baby quilt. And hopefully the day will go alot better.

Thank God for Fridays. =]

We got a lot of baby things done this weekend - which is a load off my mind. We put the rocking chair & the crib together. Now we need the mattress & sheets, but at least the main part is put together & it wasn't all that difficult either. The only "big" item left to buy is a small dresser. Hopefully that won't be too difficult to find. Putting these things together & buying baby things makes this feel so real. Sometimes it's a bit overwhelming.

I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon. Hopefully I'll be able to figure out what this leg pain is. It's pretty difficult to walk sometimes. =/

Valentine's Day was...

... great! :) It's pretty much my second favorite holiday - after Christmas, of course. Though that could all change starting this year when I'll be able to celebrate my first Mother's Day as a mom!

I bought Jesse a box of chocolates, of course, and made some cupcakes that I decorated with the words "I love you Jesse". Cheesy, maybe, but definantly delicious! We had reservations at Brown Bottle & then aferwards we watched a movie. That is what I like doing for Valentine's Day.

It's insane to think that in two months the baby will be here! It seems like just yesterday I found out I was pregnant. There's still so much to do and so much to buy before she comes! I'm just afraid that we won't have everything before she comes, which is, of course, stressing me out ALOT. Not that it really takes alot to stress me out, but that is so not the point.

My mind is all goofed up today, mostly because I'm so tired. I think Soxy & I are going to cuddle all day. :)

9 more weeks!!!

Friday I went to Kohls and found half of the outfit that Olivia will wear home from the hospital (see above!). It's been a little bit difficult to find newborn outfits that aren't onesies. I still need to find pants but hopefully that will be a little bit easier. April's kind of difficult to shop for since it's hard to tell if it will be warm or still wintery out. And by the way this winter has gone, it's even more difficult.

Yesterday we bought a crib and a rocking chair! That's almost all of the furniture/big items that we have to buy. Now I need a little dresser and then all the big items will be purchased and all that will be left will be clothes, bottles, blankets, and everything else. :P We still need to put the crib and rocking chair together, but I don't think that will take too long.

So far today has been great. The baby slept a little bit earlier and then woke up to eat. She fell asleep while eating and has been sleeping for the past hour(ish). It's been a pretty easy morning, which is good, because I feel a little off this morning. Oh well.

I'm finally at the point where I'm ready for this pregnancy to be over and for Olivia to be here! Only 9 more weeks until the due date! :D

Long week

Today has a been a long day. Very little of it is due to the children - most of it is just random things that happened. It really began with my waking up a little earlier than usual, and being wide awake. That doesn't happen very often. Later, I decided to have breakfast - mostly due to the fact that I was starving, which is usually how I wake up anyway. There was no milk so I couldn't have cereal. There were a couple pieces of bread left, so I decided to make French Toast. I put it in the pan, which happens to be really old and crappy, and it stuck and made a huge mess, so I ended up having to throw one piece away. I then decided to use the griddle. 20 minutes later I realized that I had not plugged it in so I had wasted all that time waiting for something to cook on a cold surface. Argh.

Also, for some reason today, I just feel "odd". I don't feel like my normal self and it's throwing my whole day off. And my back has been starting to bother me. I'm pretty thankful, though, that this is really the only "normal pregnancy problem" that I've had. I didn't have any morning sickness or anything else, which I am grateful for. I don't think I could have handled that at all.

On a totally different note, I'm pretty sick of this whole election process. I'm tired of hearing about McCain - he's not a conservative. He's a liberal wearing a conservative suit - barely wearing the conservative suit. He's not president material. I'm tired of hearing about Hillary "crying" - the woman doesn't have tear ducts - and about how she's a woman. We all know if she wins her AND Bill will be running the country together. Why on earth do you want the Clinton's back? I'm tired of hearing about Obama and his ethnicity - we fought that war years ago & it's not important that he's black. Yippee.

I'm totally glad it's the weekend. It's been a long week.

I had a doctor's appointment yesterday. Everything was perfect! :) Little Olivia is so active - it'll be interesting to see how active she is after she's born! Speaking of which, that's in a little over 2 months! It's hard to believe how fast time has flown by! I still have to buy EVERYTHING. I looked at outfits yesterday, since she'll need something to wear home, and I didn't really find anything, so the shopping continues. I also haven't heard anything about the church having a baby shower, so I'm kind of starting to worry about that. =/

Today has been an easy day of work, which is great. It was kind of a long weekend, and I was pretty tired. It's nice when Dillon's at preschool so I can sleep while the baby is sleeping. :)

I can't believe it's snowing again! I'm so ready for winter to be over.

f-i-f-t-y

Last night I bought a "like-new" changing table for $50. Yay. It's even white so it will technically match the bedroom - even though that isn't a big deal. It could use a little paint, but that's totally fine. Especially since new changing tables are around $100. Yay for saving money and for being able to buy a bigger item. :)
Agh, I've been so tired lately. Apparently the pregnancy tiredness is finally catching up with me again. The 2nd trimester I wasn't quite as tired. Now everything hurts - often - and I need a lot more sleep. I've got to start getting to bed earlier.

A weight off my shoulders

I got the test results back yesterday. Turns out I passed! :) It was a long weekend of worrying about it. I know I shouldn't worry, but that's what I do - and I do it often. I apparently have an iron deficiency and am supposed to take some iron pills in addition to the prenatal vitamins. We'll see how that goes.
It's odd to realize that there's only 10 weeks left until the due date. Agh, time really does fly. It's also time to really start thinking about what I need to buy before the baby comes, and let me tell you, that list is pretty long. The only things that I have purchased are a bouncer & a swing - and that's only because I bought them for the daycare, but they haven't been used. I do have a few clothes, but those will have to wait a few weeks or so - at least until the bellybutton falls off. And I have a pair of socks & a cute little pink hat, but the necessities I have yet to buy. A changing table/dresser would be great to have right now, even, just because it's getting increasingly difficult to get on the floor to change Laney's diaper. My brother's going to build a cradle, and that should be pretty neat. :)
Hopefully this week won't drag on and on. It's already been a long morning.

Glucose test

Yesterday I took the 3 hour glucose test. My sister & Kate went with me, which was nice since I had to sit at the hospital for an awfully long time. I had my blood drawn 4 times, which, quite frankly, is not my favorite thing. I still have a mark/bruise from having my blood drawn on Tuesday. The worst part of the whole thing is that I won't know the test results until tomorrow. I have never been so nervous for anything my entire life.
